Fürstenfeld Monastery was founded in 1263 by Duke Ludwig II as atonement for the murder of his wife. The monastery church is a masterpiece of South German Baroque. The town became internationally known during the 1972 Olympics when the terrorist attack on the Israeli team ended tragically at the former airfield.
